Position Description

The Center for Disability Research and Policy Studies, a research unit within the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling in the College of Education at Auburn University is seeking to fill an opening for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor. The Center is in need of an Assistant Research Professor with academic credentials in rehabilitation, counseling, or related with a research focus on practices that facilitate individuals with significant disabilities accessing the primary labor market, achieving community integration, and living independently. The Assistant Research Professor’s position is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty assignment within the Auburn University research faculty family. The selected individual will have a one-year written employment contract, which may be renewed for future years based on need, availability of funding, and performance. The total term of employment will not exceed the period of available funding from contract and grant, generated income, or other designated funds.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) Earned doctorate (by start date) in Rehabilitation Counseling or related field

(2) Evidence of ability to contribute to and maintain a record of research and scholarship

(3) Strong qualitative and/or quantitative evaluation skills, including sample design, mixed method designs, data analysis and instrument development

(4) Expertise in the use of statistics, sampling methodologies, and statistical analysis software such as SPSS

(5) Knowledge, skills, experience, abilities, and demonstrated leadership in disability issues, advocacy, policies, and best practices

(6) Demonstrated ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources

(7) Experience in designing and facilitating interactive meetings and workshops;

(8) Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously and deliver quality, expected results on time

(9) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

(1) Administrative and professional experiences related to rehabilitation counseling

(2) Credential as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or eligibility to sit for the CRC credential or related credential to their specialization

(3) Demonstrated experience in grant writing

(4) Demonstrated ability to secure grant funding for disability research, training or technical assistance

(5) Evidence of leadership of major disability related organizations and/or research/scholarship productivity

(6) Proven ability to provide leadership with the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team within state, local, and university settings

(7) Ability to manage multiple projects with quality outcomes.

The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2018.
