Position Description

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Health Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of Program Director, Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) Program, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, at the associate professor or professor level. The successful candidate will be a talented and experienced national leader, who will cultivate excellence in research, teaching, and service. This year-round position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to build on an established program and shape the direction of new initiatives. Anticipated appointment date is fall 2018.

Required Qualifications:

Trusted leader with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
-Expertise in curriculum and evaluation as well as a strong record of teaching excellence, service, and academic scholarship, as demonstrated by research publications and the ability to secure extramural research funding, consistent with appointment to the rank of associate professor or professor.
-Experience in mentoring junior faculty.
-Evidence of progressively responsible leadership and resource management experience in a U.S. higher education setting.
-A record of active participation or leadership roles in professional organizations.
-Earned academic or research doctorate from a CORE/CACREP-accredited program in rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation psychology, counselor education, or a closely related field
-Eligibility to meet requirements for both the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credentials
-A minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a rehabilitation counseling education program.
-Preference will be given to candidates with a strong collaborative research record, an orientation towards community-centered research, and a record of prior work experience in a multi-cultural setting with experience in a rehabilitation counseling education program.

The Program:

The Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) Program is part of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso, and was founded in 2009, admitting its first cohort in 2010. The Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) degree provides a strong foundation in the philosophy, process, and profession of rehabilitation counseling through didactic coursework, field experiences, and extracurricular experiences. It develops expertise in the independent living, medical, social, and psychological aspects of disability and in the vocational rehabilitation process. MRC faculty members hold primary appointments in the MRC Program and may participate in the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD Program. Faculty members are also encouraged to collaborate in teaching and research with faculty from other programs across the University, clinical partners, and other regional universities
