Position Description:

The SVRI Executive Director is responsible to the Dean of the College of Education, Hospitality, Health and Human Sciences (CEHHHS) to provide leadership, facilitation and coordination for a nationally recognized institute with multiple units to promote service, research and training excellence for the benefit of students, consumers, and rehabilitation professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required
1. Doctoral Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Studies or a related field (Consideration will be given to candidates who are ABD, although doctorate must be completed within one year of the contract start date)
2. Seven (7) years of experience that includes a combination of the following: working with diverse populations including individuals with disabilities research and service in the areas of vocational rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, and/or disability studies business management, marketing, revenue generation, and financial management
3. A record of publicly and/or privately funded research projects
Knowledge of and involvement in national rehabilitation issues, activities and initiatives
4. Ability to facilitate and promote relationships/partnerships with internal/external stakeholders
5. Demonstrated leadership in personnel management and development of staff skills

Highly Desired
1. A record of scholarly research
2. History of successful dissemination of other scholarly activities
3. Holds CRC certification or is CRC eligible

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
1. Provide high-performing organizational leadership in developing and implementing strategic plans, business and personnel management, and staff development.
2. Develop strategies to meet the vision and mission of SVRI and University of Wisconsin-Stout.
3. Establish and promote strong relationships with appointed officials at the state and national level to further support the interests, mission, vision, and values of SVRI and UW-Stout.
4. Serve as an ambassador for SVRI and the University fostering positive relationships between SVRI and local, regional, national and international rehabilitation organizations, consumer/advocacy groups, accrediting organizations and other bodies.
5. Facilitate effective partnerships between SVRI and the Department of Rehabilitation and Counseling to enhance the educational experiences of students.
6. Develop and promote interdependent relationships between SVRI, academic departments across campus, and UW-Stout outreach entities to support the University’s commitment to provide lifelong educational opportunities for internal and external customers.
7. Represent the interests of SVRI at the Dean’s Council, with other CEHHHS and University committees/councils, and with the various administrative levels on campus.
Promote open communication, positive relationships, and cooperative programming across SVRI’s operations.
Business Management
1. Develop annual goals and objectives for SVRI in concert with management team to facilitate expansion and coordination of Institute activities.
2. Supervise SVRI unit managers and conduct annual performance reviews with each manager in accordance with UW-Stout policy and procedures.
3. Identify and develop sources of General Purpose Revenue (GPR) and non-GPR funding to support the continued development of SVRI service, research, knowledge mobilization and teaching activities.
4. Supervise all GPR and non-GPR accounts administered by SVRI to ensure compliance with all UW-Stout state and federal policies and procedures.
5. Develop and coordinate marketing strategies to increase utilization of SVRI’s activities locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally and to strengthen the Institute’s role within the rehabilitation community.
6. Develop the annual GPR budget with the Dean and College budget office to ensure university support for broad-base operations and provide benefits to college/campus research, service, and instructional mission.

Research and Practice
1. Promote, support and reward innovative research.
2. Foster and reward service and teaching activities of SVRI faculty/staff.
3. Develop and implement emerging, promising and evidence-based practice.

Other
1. Work with the CEHHHS Dean and SVRI management team to provide relevant training and professional development opportunities for staff.
2. Host guests and other external audiences to the campus, community and SVRI.
3. Represent SVRI on various internal and external workgroups, committees and boards.
4. Promote and support a culture of respect, civility, collegiality and citizenship.
5. Model professional standards of behavior with students and colleagues.
6. Demonstrate ongoing responsibility for self-education.
7. Other duties as assigned, specifically related to developing business opportunities at the local, state, national and international levels.
